Curtis Brown
I was born and raised in Northwest Kansas in Norton. I graduated from Norton Community High School in 1998. I then graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 2002 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Political Science while also competing on the Wrestling team where I was a two-time NCAA Academic All American and a member of the 2003 National Dual Championship team. I obtained my Juris Doctorate from the University of Tulsa School of Law in 2008. I am married to my wonderful wife Jessica Brown and we have two beautiful daughters, Kennedy and Aly.
Marla Woods
Marla started with the Law Office of J. Curtis Brown, LLC in October of 2018. Marla is a lifetime resident of WaKeeney, Kansas and has strong ties to Northwest Kansas. Marla is a paralegal with the firm and has been a paralegal since 2013. She earned her Associates Degree in Applied Science and Paralegal Studies from Westwood College. Her friendly attitude and strong work ethic make her a valuable part of the firm. Marla communicates with clients, assists in drafting legal documents, and helps manage cases from the beginning. Marla has two children Chloe and Ryan.
Experience & Integrity
I was admitted to practice law in the State of Kansas in 2009 and began my career that year as a staff attorney in Hays for Kansas Legal Services. In 2012 I was awarded the Community Assistance Award from the Kansas Coalition Against Sexual and Domestic Violence. I then practiced in the Glassman, Bird, Powell firm, first as an associate and then as a partner. I served on the Board of Trustees for the Kansas Bar Foundation from 2013-2017. In February 2018 I opened the Law Office of J. Curtis Brown, LLC. I currently serve on the Board of Directors for Kansas Legal Services and since 2012, I have also served on the USD 489 Foundation and currently serve as the President. I am also active in coaching several youth sports in Hays.
